{"id":57,"date":"2013-01-29T12:38:20","date_gmt":"2013-01-29T18:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biculturalhealth.apacommnet.org\/?p=57"},"modified":"2013-03-21T08:40:53","modified_gmt":"2013-03-21T14:40:53","slug":"learn-more-about-who-we-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biculturalhealth.apacommnet.org\/?p=57","title":{"rendered":"Who We Are&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_70\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biculturalhealth.apacommnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/100_1549.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-70\" alt=\"AMA Staff at the 2012 Hmong New Year in Minneapolis, MN\" src=\"https:\/\/biculturalhealth.apacommnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/100_1549-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-70\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AMA Staff at the 2012 Hmong New Year in Minneapolis, MN<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In response to the increasing disparity in health outcomes within the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Minnesota, especially among the newly arrived Asian immigrants and refugees, the bicultural healthy living concept was conceived.\u00a0 This concept emerged from work initiated by the Asian Pacific American Community Network (APA ComMNet), a collaborative group led by Asian Media Access (AMA).\u00a0 In 2010, AMA and APA ComMNet received a prestigious grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to participate in the REACH CORE program (<b>R<\/b>acial and\u00a0<b>E<\/b>thnic<b>A<\/b>pproaches to\u00a0<b>C<\/b>ommunity Health,\u00a0<b>C<\/b>ommunities Organized to\u00a0<b>R<\/b>espond and\u00a0<b>E<\/b>valuate) that seeks to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the National REACH Coalition, AMA and APA ComMNet conducted outreach and engagement with Minnesota\u2019s eight largest AAPI communities and collected qualitative and quantitative data to understand the systematic, environmental, cultural and social factors influencing the health of AAPIs in the state.\u00a0 Guided by the MAPP process (Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership), AMA and APA ComMNet found that by moving beyond the aggregated data used for AAPI communities, various cultural, historical, institutional and societal factors emerged deeply impacting the overall health of AAPIs in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Along with its partners, AMA and APA ComMNet have devised a strategy that will allow the Asian\/Pacific Islander culture as well as the American culture of AAPIs to co-exist with the ability to use one or both cultural protective factors when needed.\u00a0 The bicultural healthy lifestyle promotes a balanced approach to living a healthy and full life.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more, check out the &#8220;<a title=\"About Us\" href=\"https:\/\/biculturalhealth.apacommnet.org\/?page_id=43\">About Us<\/a>&#8221;
